About the beach
Torre Santa Sabina is a village belonging to Carovigno, gathered around a bay, with a small harbour and a cove at the end of the village. The coast alternates small sandy beaches, low rocks and stretches of rocky shore, for over three kilometres. Right in the centre is the free Camerini beach, with shallow, sandy water; almost the whole beachfront is free, with only one beach club.
The bay is overlooked by the star-shaped coastal tower, about eleven metres high, already mentioned in an inventory of 1396 and now a private home. The inlet is an archaeological site used from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages: in Roman times this was Ad Speluncas, a staging post on the Via Traiana, and at least five wrecks have been documented in the bay.
The car parks are close by. The shallow water makes the beach suitable for children; on the rocks you will need water shoes. With north (tramontana), north-east (grecale) and east (levante) winds the sea gets rough; with south-east (scirocco), south (ostro), south-west (libeccio), west (ponente) and north-west (maestrale) winds the bay is sheltered.
