About the beach
Pantanagianni is a sandy beach in Carovigno about two kilometres long, backed by dunes, which continues in stretches of low rocky coast as far as the small cove of Torre Morgicchio. Most of the beachfront is free; there is one beach club with a bar and a JOB chair so that people with reduced mobility can swim.
A few steps from the sea stands Torre Morgicchio, a square tower built in the early 17th century to defend the masseria it is attached to from pirates, now privately owned; the coat of arms of the Dentice di Frasso princes is still over the doorway. A kilometre further inland is Torre De li Frascinari, round and crowned with corbels.
The car parks are close by. The sandy seabed slopes gently and is suitable for families; on the rocks you will need water shoes. The dunes are fragile and the coast is subject to erosion: best not to walk on them. With north (tramontana), north-east (grecale) and east (levante) winds the sea gets rough; with south-east (scirocco), south (ostro), south-west (libeccio), west (ponente) and north-west (maestrale) winds the beach is sheltered.
