About the beach

North of Torre San Giovanni the sand gives way to a low rocky shore that continues for about three kilometres. There are no sandy beaches: you stay on the rocks and get into the water from the rock, so water shoes are essential. Much of the beachfront is free.

About two hundred metres off the coast rises the isola delle Pazze, a small islet that confident swimmers reach by swimming. To the south is the village with its small harbour and the black-and-white chequered lighthouse. The coast lies within the Litorale di Ugento regional nature park, which between Torre San Giovanni and Lido Marini protects shorelines, wetlands and Mediterranean scrub: the park rules apply.

The nearest car park is over half a kilometre away: allow for a walk. Ugento is a Blue Flag municipality. The coast faces south-west: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante), south-east (scirocco) and north-west (maestrale) winds it is sheltered, with south (ostro), south-west (libeccio) and west (ponente) winds the sea gets rough.
