About the beach

Here you swim in the town of Porto Cesareo, gathered around its small harbour. The coast is largely taken up by quays and piers; between them open small stretches of sand, about six hundred metres in all, and a few low rocks. Almost the whole beachfront is free. The seabed is sandy and shallow, suitable for children.

Off the town, a few strokes from the shore, is the Isola dei Conigli, also called Isola Grande, with a tamarisk wood; Bronze Age layers and the remains of a Roman villa have been found on the island. In town you can see Torre Cesarea, a large square 16th-century tower rebuilt in 1622, the fish market and the Museo di biologia marina Pietro Parenzan. The sea is in the Porto Cesareo marine protected area, divided into zones with different levels of protection: rules on anchoring and fishing apply.

The car parks are a few steps away. The coast faces south-west: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante), south-east (scirocco) and north-west (maestrale) winds the sea is calm, with south (ostro), south-west (libeccio) and west (ponente) winds it gets rough. It is part of the Porto Cesareo Natura 2000 site.
