About the beach
Torre Squillace is a small seaside spot in Nardò, on the coast between Sant'Isidoro and Porto Cesareo. For about two kilometres the shore is low rocks; a few metres from the road opens a little beach of white sand, about a hundred metres long and free, set among the rocks. To get into the water from the rocks you will need water shoes.
The tower that gives the place its name was part of the coastal lookout system: it communicated with the tower of Sant'Isidoro and with Torre Cesarea, in Porto Cesareo. The stretch lies within the Porto Cesareo marine protected area, which also protects the posidonia meadows on the seabed and where rules on anchoring and fishing apply.
The nearest car park is about a kilometre away: you get there on foot. Nardò is a Blue Flag municipality. The coast faces south-west: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante), south-east (scirocco) and north-west (maestrale) winds it is sheltered, with south (ostro), south-west (libeccio) and west (ponente) winds the sea gets rough. It is part of the Porto Cesareo Natura 2000 site.
