Located in the southern part of the town of Porto Cesareo, Torre Cesarea is the largest watchtower in size.
The construction started in 1568 and was the headquarters of Sopraguardia controlling the district of Cesarea, enough to merit the name "Torre Capitana". It was demolished and completely rebuilt in 1622.
The tower has a quadrangular shape, with sides of 22 meters long and a 16 meters high. The foundation, characterized by thick walls, and suitable to act as a defense fortress for the harbor, is composed of two communicating floors thanks to a staircase.
Currently the headquarters of the Guardia di Finanza of Porto Cesareo, it is made of tufaceous blocks, presents various storm drains and a crowning supported by brackets.
It corresponded with Torre Squillace located in the south, in the area of Nardò, and Torre Chianca in the north.
