Porto Cesareo, with its 17 kilometres long white and soft beach, surrounded by dunes of Mediterranean scrub, offers picture-postcard views, where stand out the shades of turquoise sea, which has been awarded 3 Sails (a flag awarded to the most beautiful beaches) of Legambiente (Italian environment protection association).
There is a series of beaches as far as Torre Lapillo. Porto Cesareo is one of the most popular seaside destinations in Salento, where both the many beach resorts and the long stretches of public beach are crowded with tourists and bathers.
Since the sea beds are sandy and water is not deep, with Caribbean shades, children can safely play.
Near the coast, in front of the town centre, appears the isola dei Conigli (the Island of the Rabbits), which can be reached swimming. Here it is possible to admire the wonderful tamarisks’ forest and the reflections of the underwater world.
In the north of the town stands out Torre Chianca, overlooking an underwater archaeological site, which keeps five roman columns made of cipollino marble, which can be seen snorkeling.
Between Punta Prosciutto and Torre Inserraglio stretches the Marine Protected Area of Porto Cesareo, divided in three parts according to the level of environment protection, while the fresh fish of the Ionian Sea is guaranteed to the peninsula of Salento thanks' to the characteristic small port.
