About the beach
Marina di Felloniche lies on the Ionian coast of Castrignano del Capo, between Leuca and San Gregorio. The stretch measures just under six hundred metres: about half is a sandy stretch of about 300 metres, almost all free; the rest is low rocky shore, from which you get into the water with water shoes.
Close by, on Punta Marchiello, are the ruins of Torre Marchiello, a watchtower built in the early decades of the 16th century and now reduced to its base. The low, jagged coast towards the point is full of sea caves. On the other side, half a kilometre away, opens the inlet of San Gregorio, the ancient Messapian port of Vereto, while inland runs the Canale San Vincenzo, a karst gorge with dozens of caves.
The first car park is a few steps from the sea. The shore faces south-west: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante), south-east (scirocco) and north-west (maestrale) winds the water stays calm, with south (ostro), south-west (libeccio) and west (ponente) winds the sea gets rough. It is part of the Posidonieto Capo San Gregorio - Punta Ristola Natura 2000 site.
