Torre Marchiello, which is now in a state of ruin, is on a hill overlooking the sea, Punta Marchiello, which dominates the low rocky coastline with numerous sea caves such as Grotta delle Tre Porte (Cave of the Three Doors) and Grotta del Drago (Cave of the Dragon).
Originally the tower had a circular layout. Today there are only a few remains of the base.
The tower was built in first ten years of 1500 by the University of Castrignano del Capo and had already been restored in 1560 due to poor conditions.
On August 17, 1576, Corporal Lupo Alessandro was given a falconet and 100 iron balls by Gravili, the Mayor of Lecce, in order to sytregthen the tower which at the time was known as Torre del Brachiello.
At the end of the 17th century, the tower underwent another maintenance intervention, with the restoration of the external plastering, the guard door, the “levatizza” (step ladder) stairs and the supply of new ammunition.
Today Torre Marchiello, also known as Torre Imbriachelli, is practically abandoned.
