Rupestrian Church of Accettulla

On the outskirts of Statte, the small church of Accettulla is part of Masseria Accetta Piccola, once part of the complex of fortified masserie typical of this area, used for territorial control and as a lookout for enemies arriving from the port of Taranto.\n\nExcavated next to the dolmen adjacent to the masseria, the crypt had two periods of use, characterized by two different uses of the site: the first period dates back to the classical or late antique period with exclusively funerary use, while the second, dating to around the 10th century, transformed the space into a place of worship.\n\nA narrow corridor with six steps allows access to the crypt, where unfortunately little remains of the ancient pictorial decorations, except for a small remnant on the eastern wall.
