About the beach

Torre Sabea is a short stretch of rocky coast, about 700 metres, on the coastline north of Gallipoli, in the Crocefisso area. There is no sand: the shore is low rocks from which you get into the water, so you will need water shoes. Part of the rocky beachfront is taken up by bathing facilities.

The landmark is the tower that gives the place its name: small, built in the 16th century to defend the coast, with a truncated-pyramid plan and three machicolations on each side, similar to the San Giovanni la Pedata tower. It communicated with the fortifications of Gallipoli to the south and with Torre dell'Alto Lido to the north. Abandoned in the 19th century, it was later restored. Next to it opens the Rivabella beach, while less than a kilometre away is the small private harbour of Porto Gaio.

The car parks are close by, the first a few steps away. Gallipoli is a Blue Flag municipality. The coast faces west: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante), south-east (scirocco) and south (ostro) winds it is sheltered, with south-west (libeccio), west (ponente) and north-west (maestrale) winds the sea gets rough.
