About the beach
Between Porto Badisco and Santa Cesarea Terme the coast is high and rocky: almost five kilometres with no beach and no beach clubs, with modest inlets as far as the cove of Malepasso. In the Terrarossa area stands Torre Minervino, built in the 16th century against raids from the sea and named after the Universitas, the town community of Minervino, which paid for its construction; further south, 115 metres above the sea, is Torre Specchia di Guardia, below which the coast road winds down through the pine wood.
From Torre Minervino the view reaches as far as Punta Palascìa. To get down to the sea you have to walk over the rock: you will need water shoes and caution, and it is not a stretch suitable for children. The area is part of the Costa Otranto-Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase regional nature park, where protection rules apply. It is part of the Costa Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca Natura 2000 site.
The nearest car park is a few hundred metres from the coast. The coast faces east: with north (tramontana), south (ostro), south-west (libeccio), west (ponente) and north-west (maestrale) winds it is sheltered, with north-east (grecale), east (levante) and south-east (scirocco) winds the sea gets rough.
