About the beach
Punta Prosciutto, Li Prisuddhi in dialect, is the stretch of Porto Cesareo coast on the border with the province of Taranto, between Torre Colimena to the north and Torre Lapillo to the south. It is over three kilometres of coast, with about 2.6 kilometres of soft white sand and stretches of rock; it also includes the Lido degli Angeli area. Three quarters of the beachfront are free, with few beach clubs.
Behind it are the dunes and Mediterranean scrub of the Palude del Conte e Duna Costiera nature reserve; until the 1930s part of the marsh extended here, before it was drained. The shallow, crystal-clear water is good for children, and the area is popular with windsurfers, sailors and divers.
The car parks are a few steps away and there are several in the surrounding area. With northerly winds the sea is calm; with south-east (scirocco), south (ostro) and south-west (libeccio) winds the waves roll in. The beach is affected by erosion: best not to trample the dunes. It is part of the Porto Cesareo, Palude del Conte, dune di Punta Prosciutto and Torre Colimena Natura 2000 sites.
