About the beach
The Tramontone is the long rocky coast of Taranto between Porto Cupo and Lido Bruno: almost eight kilometres of low rocky shore, with a few stretches of small cliffs and only a few small sandy hollows, less than a hundred metres in all. You swim mostly from the rocks, partly free and partly taken up by two bathing establishments.
It is a coast for those who love swimming off the rock and looking at the seabed with a mask. You will need water shoes. Where the coast rises into cliffs, access to the sea is on foot only and calls for care, especially when the sea is rough.
Along the coast road there are several car parks, the nearest a few steps from the coast. Facing south-west, it is sheltered with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante) and south-east (scirocco) winds; with south (ostro), south-west (libeccio) and west (ponente) winds the sea gets rough and it is better not to get into the water from the rocks. It is part of the Posidonieto Isola di San Pietro - Torre Canneto Natura 2000 site.
