About the beach
The bay of Gandoli is an inlet of Marina di Leporano, on a stretch of coast just over 700 metres long made up mostly of rocks. The soft, fine sand covers just over 200 metres; here the sea is clear and the water shallow. The beach is partly free and partly taken up by a beach club, which has a lift for people with reduced mobility.
In the bay there is also a small landing place with a quay and a crane for hauling boats out. In the Gandoli area a Roman villa excavated in 1983 and a probable Greek and Roman necropolis are known. About half a kilometre away is the Saturo archaeological park, on the headland of ancient Satyrion.
The car parks are a few steps away. Off the sand you will need water shoes. The bay faces south: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale) and north-west (maestrale) winds the sea is calm, with south-east (scirocco), south (ostro) and south-west (libeccio) winds it gets rough. Leporano is a Blue Flag municipality.
