About the beach

Lido Bruno, in the San Vito area, is according to the Region the seaside spot closest to the city of Taranto. Along a stretch of less than a kilometre, low rocks alternate with small hollows of fine sand, scented by the Mediterranean scrub; there is also a short stretch of cliff. Just over a third of the beachfront is free, the rest is taken up by a beach club.

The rocks run down into the water and give way to clear, sandy seabeds, where you can see sea urchins and fish while swimming: bring a mask and water shoes. According to a local source, it was one of the summer beaches of the people of Taranto as far back as the 1950s.

The nearest car park is over half a kilometre away, so allow for a walk. The coast faces south: it is sheltered with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale) and north-west (maestrale) winds, and also with east (levante) and west (ponente) winds; with south-east (scirocco), south (ostro) and south-west (libeccio) winds the sea gets rough.
