About the beach

Porto Cupo is a rocky bay on the eastern coast of Taranto, just north-west of Gandoli. Over about two and a half kilometres of coast there is very little sand, about 80 metres; the rest is low rocky shore. The beachfront with facilities is taken up by a bathing facility, which lists services for children, a bar, a restaurant, reserved parking and access for pets; there are no recorded stretches of free beach.

In the inlet there is a small landing place with a quay: boats lie at anchor and on entering must keep to the middle of the entrance. Those swimming from the rocks should watch out for passing boats and wear water shoes.

The nearest listed car park is a few hundred metres away. The bay faces south-west: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante) and south-east (scirocco) winds the sea is calm, with south (ostro), south-west (libeccio) and west (ponente) winds it gets rough.
