About the beach
Torre Suda is the seaside village of Racale, on the Ionian coast between Capilungo and Mancaversa. The stretch, which also includes Posto Racale, measures just over five kilometres and is all low rocky shore: there are no sandy beaches and you get into the water from the rock, so you will need water shoes.
It is the same low, accessible coast that continues south towards Capilungo, with its small inlets, and north towards Mancaversa, where the rocky shore is made of flat rocks and the seabed, teeming with life, is popular with divers and spearfishers. The tower that gives the village its name was part of the network of coastal towers and communicated by sight with the Torre del Pizzo, further north. Inland, Racale is a farming town known for capers, olive oil and wine.
The car parks are close by, the first a few steps away, with several others a little further on. The coast faces south-west: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante), south-east (scirocco) and north-west (maestrale) winds the sea is calm, with south (ostro), south-west (libeccio) and west (ponente) winds it gets rough.
