About the beach
This is the village beach: about one and a half kilometres of fine, pale sand running from the small harbour towards the beach clubs, with a stretch of dunes and some coastal defence works. Most of the beachfront is free; the two beach clubs offer boardwalks and reserved parking for people with disabilities.
Torre Canne began as a fishing village around the lighthouse and the thermal spring, used since the mid-19th century. The name comes from a 16th-century watchtower, now gone, called «delle canne» (of the reeds) after the reed beds fed by the streams. To the south begin the dunes of the Dune costiere regional park, and inland the olive trees run down to the sea.
The seabed is shallow and sandy, ideal for children to play. The car parks are a short distance away. The beach faces north-east: north (tramontana), north-east (grecale) and east (levante) winds make the sea rough, while south-east (scirocco), south (ostro), south-west (libeccio), west (ponente) and north-west (maestrale) winds leave it calm.
