About the beach
Lido Morelli takes its name from the Fiume Morelli, which flows into the sea here. It is a white sandy beach about one and a half kilometres long, backed by a ridge of dunes and Mediterranean scrub, in the Dune costiere da Torre Canne a Torre San Leonardo regional nature park, on the coast of Ostuni. Almost the whole beachfront is free; the beach clubs are few and small, one of them wheelchair accessible.
A Neolithic hut village has been recorded on a terrace of the Lama Morelli. A little further south-east you reach Pilone and Rosa Marina.
The seabed is soft and slopes gently: an easy place for children. The nearest car park is a short distance away. Rules protecting the dunes and vegetation apply in the park, and the coast is subject to erosion. It is part of the Litorale Brindisino Natura 2000 site. The beach faces north-east: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale) and east (levante) winds the sea gets rough, while with south-east (scirocco), south (ostro), south-west (libeccio), west (ponente) and north-west (maestrale) winds it is sheltered.
