About the beach
Punta della Suina lies between Baia Verde and Punta Pizzo, away from the town, in the Isola di Sant'Andrea e litorale di Punta Pizzo regional nature park. There are two small sandy bays with low dunes, facing an islet called Scoglio Tondo that sits just off the shore; around them the coast is rocky. Over half the beachfront is free, with a couple of beach clubs on the rocks, and the beach is suitable for families.
You get there on foot through the Aleppo pine wood, planted in the 1930s, among scrub of strawberry tree, myrtle and mastic. Climbing over the rocks to the left you reach the long free beach that continues as far as Punta Pizzo. In summer the point is also a place for parties and music nights. Protection rules apply in the park.
The nearest car park is a few hundred metres away. Gallipoli is a Blue Flag municipality. The coast faces west: with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante), south-east (scirocco) and south (ostro) winds it is sheltered, with south-west (libeccio), west (ponente) and north-west (maestrale) winds the sea gets rough. It is part of the Litorale di Gallipoli e Isola S. Andrea Natura 2000 site.
