About the beach
Marina di Lizzano, Lizzano's only outlying village, stretches along the Litoranea Salentina. This stretch runs from the mouth of the Ostone channel to Bagnara and the Torre Canneto area: almost five kilometres of coast, with almost four of soft, pale sand and a few rocks. Much of the beachfront is free, with a few beach clubs; the seabed is sandy and slopes gently, suitable for swimmers and children.
Behind the coast road rise dunes with Mediterranean scrub and large-fruited juniper, broken in places by small marshes and woods of pine and holm oak. With the north wind (tramontana) the water takes on Caribbean glints; in summer the area comes alive in the evening.
There are car parks a few steps from the beach. Some beach clubs list reserved parking and a JOB chair so that people with reduced mobility can swim. Facing south-south-west, it is sheltered with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale), east (levante) and south-east (scirocco) winds; with south (ostro), south-west (libeccio) and west (ponente) winds the sea gets rough. The beach is affected by erosion.
