About the beach
East of Campomarino, a village belonging to Maruggio, the coast becomes an expanse of pale sand about five kilometres long, with few rocks. Almost the whole beachfront is free and beach clubs are rare; the water is shallow and clear, suitable for children and also for anyone who wants to try diving for the first time.
Behind the beach rise dunes covered in scrub, which the municipality has protected with the Parco delle dune di Campomarino: the dune belt, about nine kilometres long and about two hundred metres wide, is the Duna di Campomarino Natura 2000 site and has been under heavy pressure since the 1960s. Walk only on the paths and do not climb on the dunes. Towards the village you can see the Torre Moline, the coastal lookout around which the settlement grew up.
The car parks are a few steps from the beach. Facing south, with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale) and north-west (maestrale) winds you will find the sea calm; with south-east (scirocco), south (ostro) and south-west (libeccio) winds the waves roll in. The beach is affected by erosion. Maruggio is a Blue Flag municipality.
