Torre Quadrata, in the old town centre of San Pietro Vernotico, watches over piazza del Popolo.
Its history and the chronology of the events during which it was the protagonist are quite controversial: according to some scholars, its origin dates back to the Norman domination, between the 11th and 12th century, while others think that its construction dates back to 1380, at the behest of the town bishop.
The Tower has a quadrangular plan and two floors, with the internal rooms having cross vaults. Along the upper perimeter, there is an iron balustrade supported by corbels and machicolations.
