The white lighthouse of Punta Palascìa, nestled in the rocks, is in the area of Otranto and overlooks the Adriatic and Ionian seas, which meet here.
Here the sea has been awarded the Blue Flag and 5 Sails (a flag awarded to the most beautiful beaches) of Legambiente (Italian environment protection association) and it is possible to admire its several colours at sunrise, which brightens the easternmost point of Italy.
Here the coast is jagged and it is difficult to bathe. There are rocky slopes dropping sheer into the crystal clear and deep water, with an intense blue colour, the perfect place to practice diving and for short boat rides, leaving from the port of Otranto.
From here you can enjoy a breathtaking view, with the lighthouse which overlooks the sea, while around it steep trails surrounded by the wild Mediterranean scrub are the background for hiking’s routes.
Between Punta Palascìa and Porto Badisco, there is instead one of the wildest places in Salento, Torre Sant’Emiliano. It is possible to swim at the feet of the watchtower which stands on a rocky spur, dominating over the wild coast in front of the blue sea, with deep water. Here it is quite difficult to enter the sea.
