The Menhir San Giovanni Malcantone of Uggiano la Chiesa, 4 metres high, is one of the highest megaliths in the old province of Terra d’Otranto. It stands on a block of stone, more or less 1 metre high, in the countryside of the town.
The menhir can be seen inside an olive grove not far away from the Masseria Malcantone and on its side there are the signs of the passing of time.
In comparison to other pietrefitte (dolmens and menhirs) in Salento, this menhir doesn’t have any cross or carving, but the height suggests that it had a great importance in the past.
