Canale del Ciolo (Ciolo canal), a spectacular gem of nature in the area of Gagliano del Capo, is a small canyon which merges with the cobalt blue Adriatic sea. The place takes the name from the ravens which often fly on the slopes, called “ciole” in the local dialect.

From the high bridge of the coastline which is above the small cove, more than thirty metres high, one can enjoy a breathtaking view. From here, the bravest diver jump in the water.

On the background, you can see a tiny beach, a few metres large. The water’s edge, made of concrete, has been used as stopover by local fishermen, while water becomes deeper after a few metres.

It is not rare to discover inside the caves and along the slopes archaeological finds which date back to the prehistory. In the cave by the sea, they have recently seen a Mediterranean monk seal, a unique event in the Ionian Sea.

The Ciolo fjord is a real paradise for those who love hiking, free climbing and diving. From here it is also possible to walk along two trails, one along the coast towards Gagliano del Capo, the other, panoramic and wonderful, continues along the coast as far as Novaglie.
