About the beach
Between the Baia dei Turchi and Otranto the coast rises: almost six kilometres of cliffs and rocky shore, with no sandy stretches, and small coves in the Vigna Vecchia and Mulino d'Acqua areas. It is a stretch with few facilities, with only one beach club nearby, where you get into the water straight from the rocks.
You will need water shoes and care on the way down, all on foot: it is not a place for small children. On the other hand the town is close: less than two kilometres away are the port of Otranto, the walls with the Porta Alfonsina, the Aragonese castle and the cathedral with the Tree of Life mosaic, where the chapel of the Holy Martyrs commemorates the Turkish siege of 1480. It is part of the Alimini Natura 2000 site.
There are few car parks, but the nearest is a few steps from the coast. The coast faces north-east: with south-east (scirocco), south (ostro), south-west (libeccio), west (ponente) and north-west (maestrale) winds it is sheltered, with north (tramontana), north-east (grecale) and east (levante) winds the sea gets rough.
