A corridor with nine rock-hewn steps leads into the painted hypogeum in via Polibio, in Taranto, a monumental chamber tomb, dating back to the Hellenistic period, which consists of two different rooms.
At the edge of the corridor there are the fragments of a vault and of the double door belonging to the chamber tomb, painted as the wooden doors. The chamber room, partly rock-hewn, can be entered through a small vestibule, while on the back wall there are the traces of garland and ribbon decorations. On the sides there are two funeral beds with Ionic volutes, yellow shaped-headboard and a red burial bed.
According to the graved goods found, the tomb should dates back to the last thirty years of the 4th century BC and it should belong to a wealthy family.
