Mesagne Civic Theatre

The Mesagne Civic Theatre welcomes audiences with its neoclassical facade, built between 1894 and 1895.\n\nConstruction began in 1884, and it was decided to modify the original design by entrusting it to the famous engineer Gaetano Marschiezek, who designed a classic “Teatro all’italiana” modeled on the Politeama Greco of Lecce. When the inaugural ribbon was cut in 1895, Corinthian capitals dominated the facade, with decorations in Lecce stone, and inside, an opening bridge ceiling.\n\nYears later, the building became a theatre-cinema, and in the 1990s, a new plan was developed to adapt the structure from a scenotechnical and acoustic point of view, restoring the ancient arrangement of boxes. These now open in two tiers above the stalls, and the gallery has become a loggione, for a total of 304 seats.\n\nThe Civic Theatre offers a rich season of drama and music with international companies and artists, in collaboration with the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese.
