Civic Museum “Emanuele Barba” and Coppola Collection Hall

The museum is located in the historic quarter of Gallipoli. It was founded from the bequest of the learned Gallipolino Emanuele Barba, a physician, naturalist and patriotic man of letters, and houses several collections.\n\nIt is a true bazaar of memories, from which many glimpses of Salento emerge as you walk through the sections dedicated to ancient firearms, archaeological finds from nearby Alezio and Egnatia, numismatics, and Salentine artists active in the 19th and 20th centuries.\n\nIt is also possible to observe some views of Gallipoli, fossil remains, noble costumes from the 18th and 19th centuries, catapult balls, amphorae, ceramics and everyday objects.\n\nWorthy of note is the Coppola Collection in the hall of the same name, accessible from Via Sant’Angelo, donated by the heirs of the 17th-century physician-painter Giovanni Andrea Coppola. The collection consists of twenty canvases that reflect the influences received by the artist during his time in Rome and Naples.
