The countryside of Giurdignano is dotted with menhirs, rich in history and mysteries, creating the so-called “megalithic garden of Italy”.
There are so many monoliths that is possible to begin a real journey back in time, starting from the small village where, in its centre, there are the menhir Vico Nuovo, the menhir Croce della Fausa and those of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli and San Vincenzo.
In the countryside there is one of the most interesting menhirs, that of San Paolo. Probably also here there used to be tombs and rituals. Over the centuries several events have left their signs with crosses, Christian symbols and, speaking about the menhir San Paolo, a fresco with some connections to San Paolo and to the phenomenon of tarantismo.
The trail inside the megalithic garden of Giurdignano has also other menhirs of a great importance, such as those of Monte Tongolo, San Vincenzo, Palanzano, Madonna del Rosario, Vicinanze 1 and 2.
