Among the tallest menhirs in Puglia, the Teofilo Menhir in Martano stands 4m above the ground, right at the heart of the town, on the street of the same name at the crossroads with Stefano Sergio way. Martanians also call it the Menhir of San Totaro. Today the monolith is hemmed in by a small flower bed and a low iron chain. It displays a large engraved cross, several cuts on the edges and a hollow which is thought to have once accommodated a sacred image.
