The ravine is a deep natural inlet which separates the town centre from the Lizzito distric, whose foundation dates back to the early 50’s.
It is characterized by the presence of all the maquis shrubland's plant species typical of Murgia and a large underground oil mill (Trappeto del Duca which from the 17th century to the 50’s has produced the best oils in the territory) and a nine round-arch bridge which links the two slopes of the deep natural karst inlet.
The ravine of Villa Castelli is the only one in the province of Brindisi and with the regional measure of 2006 was included in the Parco delle Gravine dell’Arco Jonico.
