Canale San Vincenzo

In the countryside of Castrignano del Capo, just a few steps from Finibus Terrae, the white lighthouse can be glimpsed on the horizon, and amidst the greenery, the Canale San Vincenzo flows for about 3 kilometers. It is one of the three natural terraced incisions produced by karst phenomena along the road leading to Santa Maria di Leuca.\n\nA stone staircase introduces you to this magical world, where nature works hand in hand with humans, giving rise to about 40 caves—some carved into the rock face, others natural—overlooking the two banks of the channel and connected by a concrete bridge.\n\nSome are empty, others adorned with frescoes, and still others decorated simply with a cross, the only remaining furnishing of what must have been a vast rupestrian settlement, of which today only this complex of nooks and crannies remains, camouflaged among olive trees and rock formations.\n\nThe channel runs along the last two stages of the pilgrim route leading to the Sanctuary of Finibus Terrae.
