Torre San Giovanni la Pedata is a coastal tower located in Gallipoli in the area of Lido San Giovanni. Like the other watchtowers on the coastline, it was built in the 16th century for defensive purposes following the Saracen raids.
Created with regular ashlars, it has a pyramidal-truncated shape and ends with a square layout. The summit houses three storm drains on each side while the interior is accessible by means of a small door. It has two floors which are connected by wall stairway.
Today the Tower is headquarters of a Marine Biology station.
It corresponded to the North with the southern defenses of the city of Gallipoli and to the south with Torre del Pizzo.
