The only things that remain of this 16th century tower located on the coastline of the small seaside destination of Santa Maria al Bagno are the four corner bastions.
The Torre del Fiume di Galatena, also known as the “Four columns” , is one of the many watchtowers in Salento built at the will of Charles V in the 16th century to defend the territory from the Saracen assaults.
In the zone where the tower is located there is a fresh water source already known to the pirates who came here for supplies.
The tower, which is now private in the central part, has a pyramidal-truncated structure with a square base and corner bastions in a pentagonal layout measuring 16 meters high. At the top there was a belt course the brackets.
