Palazzo marchesale in Botrugno is a treasure trove, built at the end of the 15th century by Maremonte family. Simply looking at the façade one understands how precious it is, since there are the coats of arms of the noble families who used to live there.
As you enter the noble palace, with almost 80 rooms, you are soon in front of the frescoes and the refined decorations, together with the mosaic floors.
The imposing entrance staircase on the upper floor, leads to two frescoed rooms which used to be the official rooms of the noble families. The large terraces which surround the palace were the place where women could walk under the sun during spring, away from prying eyes.
Only a part of the palace can be visited now, since restoration works are in progress. It is possible to admire the 13th century tower which houses the Museo delle forze armate (Military museum) and, in the other rooms on the ground floor, the stables with 12 troughs, called “cavalcature” and the large rooms used as conference rooms and library.
