Palazzo Ciullo and Chapel della Madonna Immacolata
Located in the historic center of Vitigliano, Palazzo Ciullo is an interesting building from the second half of the 17th century.
It is a noble home with a chapel from the same period, both belonging to the Ciullo family.
The chapel, which is located adjacent to the palace, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, where there is a wooden statue of her inside.
The structure is distributed on two floors, around an interior courtyard, with balcony in Lecce limestone which embellishes its appearance.
Originally and up until the 18th century, the ground floor was used as a warehouse and a stable for horses. Today, instead, there is an internal courtyard which allows access to the other rooms in the palace.
The upper floor, instead, was used for residential rooms while today they are in another wing from a later construction.
The rooms are characterized with barrel and starred vaults and hold precious paintings. Among them is the coat of arms of the Ciullo family which represents a curlew with a light blue background and a star above. The same coat of arms is also present outside above the balcony.
Palazzo Ciullo has a solid and massive structure with remarkably thick exterior walls.
