Palazzo Balsamo in Brindisi is a gem of civil architecture which takes the name from the family who owned it in the first years of the 19th century.
The most ancient and interesting part of the building is the so-called loggia Balsamo, dating back to the 14th century, with a balcony supported by corbels decorated with strange figures and imaginary animals. Although it has been said that in Brindisi there used to be an Angevin mint, this hypothesis is not supported by any documents.
In the lower part of the façade there are two pointed arches on pilasters with mouldings, which recall motifs typical of via Tarantini, via Duomo and, partially, along via Montenegro, where the oldest buildings give space to nineteenth and twentieth- century ones.
The story
For now this text is only available in Italian.

Architecture and works
