The Menhir Vardare stands out amid the vegetation of the countryside, in the periphery of Diso. The unusual “T” shape is unique in Salento and, on its stone sides, there is the evidence of the ancient worship.

The monolith is almost 2 metres high and its shadow stretches on a dirt path in the countryside of Vardare, from which it takes its name. Giovanni Cosi discovered it in 1980 and, even if the wind has put it to the test over the centuries, it is still emblematic, rising to the sky.

On its surface, partly eroded by the passing of time, there are three crosses engraved on it and, on the upper part, there is also a gutter and a hole, which probably used to be the base of a metal cross, now lost.
