Marina di Marittima, located along the Adriatic coastline, is part of the municipality of Diso, which has been awarded 4 Sails (a flag awarded to the most beautiful beaches) of Legambiente (Italian environment protection association). This is one of the wildest parts of the coast in Salento, which stretches for almost 3 kilometres, amid peaks, caves, picturesque coves, easy landing places and cliffs surrounded by the blue sea.
Besides the cove of Acquaviva, whose name, literally “lively water”, refers to the many and gelid water springs which gush on the water’s surface, there are several coves along the cliff. In the locality Porticelli, there is a rocky slope which is also an easy access to a private beach. In Chianca liscia there is a large cove which opens towards the sea and has characteristic smooth rocks.
Instead, northwards, there is the cliff of Pizzo Galera, eroded by the time and by storms during winter.
