Alimini beach, with its really fine sand, is six kilometres long and is proud of the Blue Flag and 5 Sails (a flag awarded to the most beautiful beaches) of Legambiente (Italian environment protection association). To reach it, one has to walk across the pine forest which flanks the Adriatic coast road, in the part between Torre Sant’Andrea and Otranto.
The beach takes its name from the lakes behind it, which are no suitable to bathe, from which it is divided by the scented pine forest and by a long series of dunes, which in some parts are twelve metres high.
Water is always transparent, green-blue, while the shallow water is perfect for children.
In the north there is the campsite, some holiday resorts and private beaches, which alternate with public ones.
The long coast, usually exposed to winds, is a real paradise for surfers.
Near the forest there are several well organized security-monitored and pay parking areas, from which you can take the shuttle bus or walk along one of the trail, to reach the beach in few minutes.
