Standing on a promontory between the inlets of Saturo and Porto Perone, the Saturo Tower is on the coast east of Taranto.
Built in the second half of the 16th century as a military outpost to defend villages and the local countryside from pirate raids, it retains its original, truncated pyramid base.
However, its current modified form is the result of the recent addition of an extension on the roof, and a two-story building on the tower's south-eastern side.
The structure, which is clad in tufa ashlar, maintains traces of old harquebusiers and embrasures. The tower was used for military purposes during World War II and is today part of the Saturo-Porto Perone Archaeological Park.
From Leporano, follow the highway (S.P.) 100 for roughly a kilometre (0.6 miles). Take the highway (S.P.) 122 and then, after about 100 meters (330 feet), turn off at Viale Saturo. Continue on for a few hundred meters to your destination.

Seconda guerra mondiale
La torre fu riutilizzata per scopi bellici.4

Architecture and works
