Located in the historic centre, near the Roman amphitheatre, the Must (Historical Museum of the City of Lecce) is set up in the 15th-century monastery of Santa Chiara, today a monumental complex of extraordinary charm. It accommodates artefacts and finds that testify to the different periods of the town's history, from the Messapian and Roman times, up until the 16th- and 20th century. The gallery of contemporary art, on the other hand, hosts a permanent exhibition of the artworks of the Salentinian sculptor Cosimo Carlucci. A gathering place for the community, the Must is also a cultural venue hosting temporary exhibitions, creative and educational workshops for children and adults alike, as well as varied activities whereby to experiment arts in all its forms of expression.
