Musée de la Basilique de San Martino - MUBA

The Museum is located in the 18th-century Palazzo Stabile, within the cultural insula of the Basilica and in the heart of the historic center's monumental fabric in Martina Franca.\n\nThe Museum is organized into 4 sections: silver, sacred vestments, paintings and icons, choirbooks and parchments. The exhibition path is supported by multimedia displays that allow visitors to better appreciate the exhibited objects and deepen their knowledge of the collections and the Basilica.\n\nThe liturgical silver artifacts, now preserved in the Museum of the Basilica, are a testament to the religious and devotional history of Martina Franca and the evolution of the artistic technique of the silversmiths, mostly from the Neapolitan school.\n\nThe section dedicated to sacred vestments attests to the solemnity of the capitular liturgies celebrated in the Collegiate Church of Martina Franca and demonstrates the important role played by the Basilica in relations with the most famous centers of textile production. The Museum collects numerous specimens of predominantly Italian manufacture – from the southern region – created between the 18th and 20th centuries.\n\nIn the section dedicated to paintings and icons, a corpus of icons, wooden and bronze, of absolute historical and artistic value is exhibited.\n\nThe Basilica also houses precious paintings such as the Madonna Pastorella with Saints Gregory, John the Evangelist and Nicasio (1765) and the tempera of the Adoration of the Shepherds (1773), both works by Pietro Cataldo Mauro.
